These guys pulled out some awesome psychedelic/blues rock jams, one of the best performances I've seen in recent times. They kicked things off with the whole band playing along to what I guess was an Indian prayer/chant like the one on youtube, and it was great, didn't seem out of place or anything. Doug was entertaining right through, and he had about 4 guitars to choose from. Billy kinda eased into it, but he went all-out for the last song and it was amazing. The interplay between the 2 guitarists was brilliant at times, lots of talent for sure. Even Chris Orange plucking away on double bass is a legend in his own right, so it was cool to see. Doug's sister was good on vocals too.
The support bands were alright rock n roll, with a couple of good blues songs from The Situations. The Situations played last, so they got the drunks dancing. I looked over and saw one drunk dude planted upside down on his neck, must've been a failed attempt at a forward roll or a headstand or something.
As for calling Doug the godfather of NZ stoner rock... probably fair enough, haha. _________________ Tonight we dine in hell, tomorrow we poop like the devil. |
